Fort Portal College of Health Sciences (FPCOHES) is a public Tertiary institution found in Fort Portal Municipality Kabarole District. Fort Portal College of Health Sciences was founded in 1965 at the King’s Palace before being transferred to its current location along Mugurusi Road Plot 9 adjacent to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital in 1969 as a departmental training institution with a mandate to train medical assistants by then under Auspices Uganda Ministry of Health. It was then being called Fort Portal School of Medical Assistants (MATS). With the renew of the medical assistants’ curriculum in 1984, the name changed to Fort Portal School of Clinical Officers. Today the school has made tremendous developmental steps in terms of students’ enrolment, infrastructure, staffing and courses offered. Currently the school has transitioned to be called Fort Portal College of Health Sciences. The College is strategically located adjacent to Fort portal Regional Referral Hospital where students learn clinical/Practical Skills from. Our students are also placed to rural health facilities around Rwenzori region, pharmaceutical industries in central region and Lacor Hospital in Northern Uganda.
