Admission Requirements
- Academic credentials (UCE, UACE, or equivalent). International applicants’ qualifications must be equivalent to Ugandan standards and verified by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) or National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
- Copy of passport biodata page (for international students)
- English proficiency: If English was not your medium of instruction, you’ll need to provide proof of proficiency.
- Document translation: Non-English documents must be translated by a certified body.
International Academic Equivalencies
Fort Portal College of Health Sciences (FPCOHES) welcomes applications from international students. The following qualifications are recognized as equivalent to Uganda’s national education standards:
- Burundi: The Diplôme de Fin d’Études Secondaires is equivalent to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
- Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): The Diplôme d’État d’études secondaires is equivalent to the UACE.
- Eritrea: The Eritrean Secondary Education Certificate Examination (ESECE) is equivalent to the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).
- International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma): Equivalent to the UACE. A minimum score of 24 points is considered a pass mark for admission.
- International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE): Equivalent to the UCE.
- Kenya: The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) corresponds to the UCE.
- Rwanda: The Rwanda Advanced Level Certificate of Education (RALCE) is equivalent to the UACE. Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET) qualifications may also be considered for diploma course entry.
- South Sudan: The South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (SSCSE) is equivalent to the UCE.
- Tanzania: The Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) is equivalent to the UACE.
- United Kingdom: The General Certificate of Education (GCE) A’ Levels is equivalent to the UACE.
Visa and Immigration
- Student pass: All international students must apply for a Student Pass via Uganda Immigration Portal before arrival.
- Required documents
- Valid passport
- Passport-size photo
- Admission letter from Fort Portal College of Health Sciences
- Proof of payment for visa application
- Processing time: Up to 2 months—apply early!
Health and Insurance
- Medical insurance: A valid health insurance certificate or card is recommended at admission to ensure access to comprehensive care during your studies. However, it is not mandatory.
- Health services: Basic outpatient care is available on campus.
- Specialized treatment: Can be accessed at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, located near the college.
Accommodation
- On-campus hostels: Secure, affordable housing with electricity, and water.
- Private rentals: Available near campus. Please note that the college does allow individual off-campus accommodation for international students.
- Cost range: The fees you pay cover accommodation, meals, and tuition, offering a comprehensive package for your stay and studies.
